A Willingness to Change

How often do you wish some “thing” in your life was different? It could be about your job, your relationship or something about your personal being - you wish it could be different but making it so doesn’t seem to happen. How come? Does that voice in your head tell you its too late or you don’t know how or what you want only happens for others? Do you defeat yourself before you start?

So many of us talk ourselves right out of what we long for. But, what if you had an easy way to override that voice? What if you had a sort of roadmap to get to where you wanted to go - and all you had to do was take some time to ponder (pondering is good) your life and imagine how it could be if you allowed yourself to follow your dream? Would you try it? I’m offering you just that — a simple do-it-yourself process - a road map, if you will - towards your journey of self-fulfillment.

Step 1: Identify how you live your life now by sifting through what you like about who you are, how you are and what you do.

Step 2…Identify what you don’t like about you, your career, your relationship, etc.

Step 3…Once you have your What I Like/Dislike list start thinking about what you would like to improve upon…Re-Energize your creative mind with considering the possibilities - imagine taking what you discover you like and creating a vision of how you want it to be. (remember not to let that discouraging inner voice distract you) Try thinking out of the box!

Exploring these areas with this simple approach of like/dislike brings you in touch with how you feel about what you do — which brings increased clarity about the direction you want or need to go in.

Step 4…Re-Create: take what you’ve learned and what you’ve imagined and start to identify what you need to do to make your dream a reality.

When you have a willingness to change strengthened by allowing yourself to seriously consider the possibilities, often your possibilities turn into probabilities! It’s all about the Re-Balance!

The choices you make today will influence the rest of your life

As we move into Spring, we look forward to sunnier days and flowering trees and plants. The gestation time of winter is completed; it’s a time of renewal. Usually, we welcome the Spring by cleaning closets, changing fashion and sprucing up our environment.

This transition also provides us with the opportunity to spruce up the way we live our lives. Do we choose the same old, same old — or do we look for fresh, new, energizing ways to live the upcoming days? And, how about the way you think, act and believe? How do these characteristics of your personality influence your choices?

Thinking: Is your self-talk supportive; are your thoughts filled with positive words and perspectives of situations or others?

Behaviors: Are you kind in your dealings with others and yourself; are you mindful of the way you attend to yourself as well as your living environment?

Beliefs:  How do you acknowledge your spiritual connections; how does it serve you?

Reviewing the underpinnings of who you are helps you to better understand the choices you make. The choices you make result in the life style you live. The life style you live tells the world who you are. Is your way of thinking, behaving and believing reflective of the person you want to be?

Your choices should benefit you and others, ultimately bringing you happiness!

“How do I love thee….let me count the ways…” A line from a long ago poem but a thought to ponder during this month when we outwardly express our love with candy and flowers and cards. Receiving love offerings from others or someone really special is what we wait for…what we measure…a little something … a large something that shows us we are loved. Demonstrating love for others is what Valentine’s Day is all about. It can be fun and exciting!

But, what about a demonstration of how we love ourselves? How do you let yourself know that you love yourself? Do you give yourself a present … send yourself a card … look in the mirror and repeat “I love you” three times?

The most important gift to give yourself is that of benevolent self-talk. Do you speak kindly to yourself? Do you say encouraging words to yourself? Do you know how you feel and do you love who you are?

Demonstrating love for yourself in thought, word and deed is important. As February, the month of love, comes to an end, why not “count the ways” you show yourself how much you love you? It’s vital to your well-being!

How Do I Love Thee by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How many times have you made a New Year’s Resolution with all good intention and determination to follow through? And about now, just a few weeks later, that motivation for change, or self-improvement seems to be waning? How does that happen, you wonder - one minute you’re all in and the next, it seems like the idea came from someone else’s mind - and you wish you could introduce yourself to that person who had this great idea.

Well, you sort of can. There are techniques and approaches to introduce you to that part of you that has those great ideas for self-preservation and self-improvement. I can help you with that. But, if you want, you can help yourself by taking small steps to keep that intention alive.

In addition to waning motivation, the cold days and grey skies of winter don’t help increase the energy to stick to the Resolution. Plus, the expectation of snow further diminishes our resolve. In my opinion, snow is only great when it first falls and if you like to ski, sled or snowboard! If you live in a warm climate, the sun may help but when your resolve weakens and your resolutions loose their intensity, there are ways that you can revive your interest.

Salvaging your intention for the new year is all about keeping the intention alive!

1.   Put your intention on a piece of paper - even the back of an envelope - and tape it to your bathroom mirror….read it every morning and every night.
2.  While eating breakfast, get in the habit of starting off with a deep breath…not suggesting you slow down… although that might be helpful…am just suggesting that you get into the habit of taking deep breaths. You can also use deep breathing throughout your day. It really helps your body and feeds your brain.
3.  Review that intention and come up with 2 small steps that would give your intention some legs. You can pick a color or a picture that captures your desire and post it somewhere noticeable to remind you of the energy that created the intention.
4.  Obviously, eating healthy, decreasing alcohol intake and being consistent with exercising is always helpful…but that may be out of your reach at this time, or that might be your intention.
5. Listening to upbeat music, writing letters to yourself, finding one good thing in your day and giving yourself a small reward — not alcohol or sugar — every day.

These are all helpful hints to keep your spirits up and your motivation active. They are all small, easy steps you can take to help yourself stay focused on your prize. For more personalized suggestions, you can always contact me.

Are you living your dream life?
If not, why not?
Did you put it off or let it go completely?

Have you ever noticed a longing within you to live the life you dream about? Or a desire to make your life better - your job more interesting - your relationships more fun - your career more lucrative? Is it time to pay closer attention to that dream or desire?

Take yourself seriously for a moment. Put aside all the reasons why you can’t do anything differently and let yourself imagine that you can.

Take a few minutes to

—- sit in a relaxed, quiet place where you won’t be interrupted
—- let your eyes close as you allow yourself to take a deep breath in
—- then let it release letting your breathing return to its normal pace
—- and just let your mind play with what your dream would look like
—- how would you be dressed ... what are you doing ... how do you feel?

Let yourself enjoy the vision as if you were watching a really good movie.
Bookmark it with a color and a positive word.

Making your dream come true is possible but not without your consent and commitment. Like the saying “build it and they will come”, you need a willingness to collect the information needed to make your dream come true - one small (or large) step at a time. If not now, when?
